Victor Bosoni (232) has arrived at an impasse — the Danube River.
The 'Friendship Bridge' between Giurgi in Romania, and Ruse in Bulgaria has been deemed unsafe and impossible to cross within the rules after inspection by race organisers. Riders have been advised to seek alternative routes or crossings.
The E-Road crossing the bridge was banned in the Race Manual, but some riders had hoped to try and cross the bridge using a pedestrian path. Today, as Victor arrived on the bridge, he converged with Control Team 1, who had found sheer drops of ~100m, holes through to the river, and no physical separation between road and path on the Romanian side. In the interests of rider safety, Victor was informed on his approach to the bridge, and immediately charted a new course.
As of now, he is speeding downstream along the north bank of the Danube in search of another crossing to take him over the river and towards the finish parcours.
Martin Moritz (297) is still on the south side and heading east at pace, closing the gap between himself and Victor. Depending on Martin’s movements, it may soon only be the gap of the Danube between them. The race across Europe is still very much alive.
