Never going to Germany that's for sure!
I purchase road bicycles internationally for myself, and for others as a broker for a sale. I am located in the USA.
I recently obtained a bike from Steel Vintage Bikes for a client (I would never purchase from them for myself due to overpricing).

Prior to the purchase I contacted "SVB" multiple times inquiring about details of the bike. Each time I received a response in a very timely manner (24 hours or less) from their staff.

After the bike was purchased, and upon receiving it I discovered many issues. The shipoing agreed upon prior to sale was done incorrectly, the bike was improperly packed (causing minor damage), the bike was amateurishly/improperly assembled (headset adjusted too tight, oil literally dripping out of bottom bracket, tubular tires improperly mounted and poorly glued), and parts were not as described ("Campagnolo" bottom bracket assembly had some OFMEGA parts).

I sent multiple messages to them addressing all issues; although I told them I was only concerned about being compensated for them blatantly (not shown their photos or noted in their component descriptions) using a different part than what their site stated, but still to having to pay premium price for a bike sold under fraudulent conditions. I included a photo of the part clearly showing it to be incorrect.

"SVB" ignored my many messages without once replying. I merely asked to be compensated for having to get the proper part (Campagnolo!) and for my time and labor to dismantle, replace, and adjust the bottom bracket. I wasn't trying to get any significant money from them; merely $25 for labor cost, and $30 for parts (the total of which is less than it would actually be it I had to have the work done at a professional bike shop (which "SVB" is obviously not!).

I am trying to obtain some level of recourse, but I have no knowledge as to what Berlin or German consumer agency I should submit my complaint to. Could someone please provide any information on what I can do to obtain some satisfaction, and/or if nothing else officially expose their shady business practices ("take the money and run")?

Their conduct is unethical and unprofessional. Not at all sorry to expose the truth. Fraud (incorrect item) and theft (stole my money).

Of course I left a review on their website (I am not sure if it is actually showing in their reviews or nor), and I am leaving comments on other inline business review platforms.

I greatly appreciate any assistance, as this affects me (I am a very small operation) monetarily, and it affects my integrity and relationship with my clients.

I would also like to know if anyone else has experienced similar behavior from "SVB".

Thank you,
Jasper

As a reseller and considering the low amount of money involved, further steps don't make financial sense. You should delete the sentence mentioning crime. Free speech has llmits in Germany.

Fine! Criminal was an opinion and is removed. Now replaced with fraud and theft; both of which are facts!
Glad that you are independently wealthly. I am not and have no stable source of income. If you consider it a small amount then feel free to send the money yourself.

I am NOT reseller; I am a broker for the buyer, and do not make any money on the purchase for the buyer. I do make money servicing the bike and affecting any changes/upgrades the owner wants. Now that already SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY I WOULD HAVE MADE SERVICING THE BIKE IS A LOT LESS BECAUSE STEEL VINTAGE FRAUDULENTLY SOLD ME SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT AGREED UPON OR ADVERTIZED TRUTHFULLY!
I guess you have no problem being ripped off by a business making a false statement and taking your money with impunity; I prefer to receive what was paid for, but that is just me using my logical German brain. Sorry, but the owner expected to get what they pay for, which in this case they did not; and now I am being held responsible for another's unethical business behavior. Is stating the truth a crime here? Sorry, I used the word crime; crime, crime, crime!

Not sure why you responded if you could not or would not address my question.

You're talking about a total damage of...55 dollars?

I know I wouldn't hire an overseas lawyer for 55 dollars, but that's just me.

If you lose before a court, you'll face legal fees AND have to pay your own lawyer. Which could potentially 50-fold your damages.

I get that you're pissed at them and it very much seems like they did not follow their end of the contract, but the smart thing to do is to let go here.

You could make that kind of money in an hour, why waste your time and nerves fighting over so very little?

PS: I know English is de facto a lingua franca in business relations, but going to a German-speaking message board and expecting everyone to switch to english feels slightly presumptuous. Not to criticize you personally, I get that you just want to vent and let Germans know, I just feel that a message board only makes sense when you stick to its language. 🫣

Ask you explicitly asked about a Berlin based consumer agency, here you go: https://www.verbraucherzentrale-berlin.de/ This is the webste of the Berlin consumer protection agency (in Germany these are state-level agencies). But as you are not a consumer, but a business, they probably won't support you.

Apart from this I totally concur with cryptocat's statement. Isn't it a waste of your time and energy?

Obviously only one adult brain here. Very childish remarks. And then let's make a political remark without even knowing anything about the individual you are directing them at.
I asked one question and got omly one intelligent answer. I never once mentioned legal action, and yet those assumptions were made without any thought.
Regarding posting on a German forum; why is there an option to choose English as a language, as well as many other languages, if you only want German speaking members. It did not state that I needed to be of German descent nor be able to write in the German language.
You may be surprised to know that the American, UK, French, Italian, and Japenese, Belgian, Dutch, and other non-German based cycling forums are not knowledgeable on German consumer protection agencies or laws.
Fortunately, one member here is not a judgmental child when conversing online.
Sorry to offend the German "sensibility" of those who instead of helping only posted as a meanscto ridicule aomeine who was wronged by an unethical German business that is at this point and without any doubt a criminal operation; and since it consists of more than one individual it is not wrong to say that they arecan organized crime operation. All of you who enjoy being taken advantage of and having your money stolen by the criminal operations of Steel Vintage Bikes are welcome to business with that unethical fraudulent crime organization. Cheers!

Obviously your site rules do not apply to responding.

Bring it on trolls, as I will not need to access this site ever again knowing now that there is only one mature member willing to provide a sensible response and to whom I thank. I will take appropriate steps through that agency in order to espose the crime I am suffering the consequences of. Othrrwise I will eschew all that is German, including my lineage since I do not wish to be associated with it if this is the result of doing. Feel free to chitter amongst yourselves as you devise more immature comments, as this adult will not be back to this quagmire of ridicule. That will be a blessing for us all.

I will also post screen shots of the childlike replies to other cycling forums to expose the level of immaturity displayed here and as a warning to just stay away from your "German only" childish club.
Enjoy & cheers!

Dude, you should acquaint yourself with German insolvency law. The Limited liability company is currently under control of a court-appointed insolvency administrator.

"I think they should be held accountable, I think someone needs to make them pay! If they don't comply, there will be consequences. It's not going to work out well for them. I don't think they'll like the mess that they've gotten themselves into!"
