Hi everyone!
It is my first time signing up to foreign language forum but you guys maybe the only ones that can help me :)

Recently i bought a road bike on a local auction website. As auction says it suppose to be Enik road bike.
Despite awful colors, the bike is preatty neat. It's all shimano 600 tricolor. Dura ace hubs and Mavic gp4 rims.

When the bike finally arrived I noticed thet the Enik Logo looks like a hand made sticker. Cutout with scissors from coloured adhesive foil.
I was really worried that only thing that makes this bike Enik is the sticker, but the longer i study photos and catalogues i started to think that maybe it is some sort of low end enik bicycle.
The lugs, the fork and many other details are identical, like this chromed "shield/chainguard"(idk how to call it) on the driveside tube.
Please have a look and let me know what you guys think

Re: Is this really Enik?
Hi @Lukas G ,

I share your doubt, but have no knowledge about this special item.
Wether Enik or not, it's a nice bike.

Perhaps you can get some further information here:

http://www.rennrad-news.de/forum/threads/fährst-du-enik-wirst-du-eniks-der-enik-thread.118667/

or here:

or ask your questions here:

or directly to user @ols69 , one of the specialists for Enik-bikes here.

Welcome here!
Helmut

The paint job is definitely not original and the fork is lacking the eyelets and hence doesn't belong to the frame.
Although this is not an Enik (s. above post) it still seems to be a decent bike. Just leave it as it is and ride it.
You could refinish it and get rid of that awfull color but I would strongly suggest not to waste too much money on it.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

I was afraid that despite all the similarities it is not Enik, Altough I was expecting that posibility.
@Dralexisco
I already looked in this thread and catalogues but couldnt find anything.

@HongKong
Im thinking about powder coating it (navyblue probaby). Adding some touches like stiched leather handlebar wraps.
Already changed the saddle to my beloved B17 brooks. :)
Maybe I will change to regular clincher rims.
After i finish with it's gonna look great.
But still disapointed that its not Enik.

Thanks again
Lukas

Maybe just a little tale for some confusion but if it's really a Mairag (and the number plate at the last picture looks like one, like @fuerdieenkel said allready) here a little story:

Mairag was a company in Switzerland, which build steelframes. Somewhen in the late 80's that company got sold to Schauff, a big brand from Germany. Everything. machines, frameparts, maybe also some frames.
Schauff sponsored the NRW cycling team.
And Enik sponsored them too.
I all ready saw Schauff's (or better Mairags) with Enik Decors.
When the sponsor changed, not the whole frames changed. No - just the decals on the frames got replaced ;)

The last picture in sharp would be nice.

Wow. You might actually be right.

There is a very small logo next to serial number. I tought it's some kind of flaw in the plate. it looked like a little raining cloud. But sideways it looks a little bit like the logo on the photo.

I will finally go to sleep without thinking about it :)

Thanks again for such quick reply!!

definitely Mairag frame.
but the 600 groupset is too young. Should be DA EX, 600EX, Campagnolo or something with Edco. You can find some info on http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Switzerland/Mairag.htm
And yes, not all Schauff / Mairag frames were sold under the Schauff / Mairag brand name.
Actually Schauff started the framebuilding business in 1932 not just for its own bikes, but also to supply other frame builders in Cologne / rhineland area ....
cheers Jan

Even if that frame was regulary branded ENIK before someone "refinished" it and replaced the decals with handmade substitutes it is still hard and pretty expensive to restore the original bike.

You would need to find the original forks (probably a pain in the ass) before you can have the frame set resprayed.
Finding the fork is one thing, getting it for a fair price is another.
The current Ultegra components are technically very good but pretty common and you wouldn't get much money for it if you sell it.
An (DA or 600) EX group on the other hand is harder to find and considerably more expensive.

A rough calculation for your frame restored as a mairag with 600EX:
New forks about 100€, enamel color and original decals about 200€, replacing the groupset about 100€, small parts and bits 50€.
It's a long way to go and not cheap but most people here would probably go for it.

I would still suggest to ride the bike as it is if you don't have an alternative road bike classic for this season.
If you ever want to restore the original Mairag or rebranded Enik do not powdercoat the frame (the stuff is very hard to remove)!
If you are not experienced with road bikes you might just want to disassemble the bike, respray it with a can and reassemble it.
That way you'll get to know your bike and learn how to service it (if you don't know already).
And most important: Ride it!

Buy the way .... MAIRAG 3 stars 600EX for 270€

By restoration I didn't mean like making it as original as possible in a historic way.
More like refreshing and a little bit of tuning it to my personal vision.
First thing is to get rid of this black pinkish purpleish color :), put some leather on the handlebar, clean everything. That stuff.
I don't want to invest more than it is necessary.
I will definitely stay with the parts an this beautiful chrome fork.

The bike is ment to be ridden and im gonna ride it hard this season :)
I like this bike very much and want to give it some love and looks, so it wont be such a pain in the eye :p

The most important thing is that now I know what I'm gonna ride and it's all thanks to you guys!
So again thanks for all the feedback an interest.
I will gladly share any updates on the bike (if there will be any).

Best regards!
Lukas
